Just some sketches of a couple ideas I brainstormed for an illustration competition I entered hosted by a coffee co. as I sat on my roof last night with a brew and my iPod. The weather finally cooled off last night from the thick humidity we’ve had for the past few weeks so it was pretty nice up there. I’d been looking for a good opportunity to go up there, and although there were no lights this was as good of a time as any. …Yes, a coffee company… it will make sense in the end…hopefully. Cheers.

Happy Independence to you and this amazing country of ours..even though it’s going through many changes at the moment. Living in Korea, I wonder if it’s really worth being around for the special ‘changes’ going on in the Land of the Free. But all is calm over here on the eastern front with a few exceptions of what I’d call the ‘Deep East’. Anyway, here’s another peak at something I’m in the middle of:

Triptych

It was a painstaking experience painting my first triptych, but I wanted to give it a shot. I also hadn’t painted this large before. But I’d say if you ever want to paint larger than you normally do, a triptych, diptych, whichever, isn’t a bad way to go since you have separate pieces to work with, and when you’re finished, as a whole, it becomes a nice large piece you can be proud of. I made many mistakes, much of which are obvious, but it was definitely a learning experience given a lack of ideal living conditions here in Korea. There are a few things I would do differently, and it will be easier since I’ll have new living conditions this next year. I will also get it properly photographed.

So here’s a bunch of gobbledygook about the painting. Each panel has it’s own theme – the left panel is solely focused on the floral; the middle, animals; and the right, fireflies. The yellow border that surrounds each image implies the theme with a single unique design in the upperhand corners. There are small schools of color-shifting fish swimming around the girls’ feet. The girls are childlike to increase the innocent and relaxing, yet playful mood of the serene imagery I was aiming for.

Sneaks

Hello hello. It’s been a while, so I thought I’d at least update you all on my progresses on a couple of things. I have been sick a couple weeks so it’s been tough to work in my off time besides just resting. But I’m feeling much better today so I’ll be nailing out some work today I believe. Once they are finished and I have some decent photos of them I will be posting them in my portfolio, so keep your eyes peeled. Thanks for your interest and all your comments thus far. Ports of Aidia final spread

I meant to post these a few months ago and just forgot about them I guess, but I thought it’d be nice to see what I also did in the guts of the cd art for Ports of Aidia. I’ve included the outside and inside booklet spreads that were designed as a trifold. Also there is the back cover with the track list as well as the sides with name and title in the red areas.
